Aeroacoustics in HVAC systems
Efficiency must not be loud
Ventilation systems, air conditioning systems, fans – they ensure comfort and a pleasant indoor climate. But often a topic goes unnoticed for too long: sound.
Aeroacoustics is the key to not only making HVAC systems efficient, but also quiet.
Noise caused by flow, turbulence and interaction with housing parts has a significant impact on acceptance – be it in the office, in the hotel or in the living area.
What we do:
- CFD-supported flow simulations for prediction and optimization of airways
- Design optimization of fan geometries and air ducts
- Balance between air performance, energy efficiency and acoustic comfort
General: With the help of a scale-resolving CFD simulation, the transient pressure fluctuations are mapped in such a way that the sound sources can be defined. This allows the identification and optimization of the sound generation. To take into account installation effects and to assess the frequency-dependent sound levels at certain locations, the sound propagation can be simulated after identifying the sources.
The goal: systems that not only work, but are hardly audible. Because: Good technology is quiet technology.

There are a thousand kinds of noise, but only one real silence.
